Privacy Policy — WellThot Jots

WellThot Jots (“the app”) is developed and published by WellThot LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”). This policy explains how the app handles your information. The short version: we don't collect any of it.

We collect no personal data

WellThot Jots has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party SDKs. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information about you, and we operate no servers that receive your data. The one exception is anything you choose to send us yourself — see If you write to us.

Your notes stay yours

The notebooks and drawings you create are stored on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, the app uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your notes through your own private iCloud account so they are available on your other devices. This data lives in your personal iCloud space and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to it — we cannot see, retrieve, or store your notes.

Bringing in a PDF or scan (forms)

When you open a PDF or scanned document “in Jots,” or choose one as a Jot or notebook background, the system's own file or Files picker hands the app only the single document you selected — nothing else. That document becomes part of your notebook, stored the same way as your ink: on your device and in your own iCloud. We never see it.

Handwriting recognition (Recognized Text)

On iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, Jots can turn the ink on a Jot into text using Apple's on-device handwriting recognizer — when you ask (Recognized Text…), as you leave a Jot (you can turn that off in Settings), or for your whole library at once (Read All Handwriting). The recognition happens entirely on your device: no network request is made, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. The text it produces is stored with the Jot, on your device and in your own iCloud, exactly like your ink, so it can be shown, edited and searched inside the app; it syncs to your other devices the same way, including ones that cannot read handwriting themselves. It is not indexed outside the app, and it goes nowhere but your devices and your own iCloud unless you copy or share it yourself. A notebook you share as a PDF carries this text with it: printed under each page, or, with Show Text in PDFs turned off, as invisible text so the PDF can be searched. Anything you share is then an ordinary, unencrypted file or piece of text, as described under exporting below. Deleting a Jot deletes its text with it.

Drawing in Messages

The Jots iMessage app lets you sketch and insert an image into a conversation you're already in. It works entirely inside that conversation — it stores nothing beyond the drawing you're currently working on, keeps no separate history, and doesn't read or send anything on its own. What you send is subject to Messages' and your carrier's or Apple's own handling of that conversation, not ours.

Backups and sharing are under your control

The app lets you share what you've written, using the system's standard share sheet:

• a single Jot, as an image;
• a whole notebook, as a PDF anyone can open, which includes any text read from your handwriting;
• a notebook, as a Jots file (a .zip) that another copy of Jots can import;
• a complete backup of everything, as a file you keep — or several notebooks at once, using Select Notebooks.

Each of these is something you start, and the result goes only where you send it (for example Files, Mail, or AirDrop). Nothing is uploaded anywhere by the app itself — we are not involved and receive nothing.

Exported files are not encrypted

Anything you export or share leaves the app as a plain, unencrypted file. That applies to all of it — the Jot image, the PDF, the Jots file, and the full backup.

On your device and in your iCloud, your notes sit behind Apple's own device and account protection. That protection does not travel with a file once you export it. From then on its safety depends entirely on where you put it and how you send it — email and messaging in particular may keep copies on servers outside your control.

People use Jots for account numbers, confirmation codes, door codes and phone numbers. If a Jot holds something you'd rather not have read by whoever finds the file, handling it securely is your responsibility: treat the export as you would any other unencrypted document, and think about the destination before you send it.

Deleting your data

You can delete any note or notebook in the app, empty the Trash to remove items permanently, or use “Restore All” to replace everything. Because your data is stored only on your device and in your own iCloud, deleting it there removes it.

Children's privacy

The app is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. Because we collect no data from anyone, we collect no data from children.

Permissions

The app requests no special permissions — there are no permission prompts for the camera, contacts, location, or microphone, and it never browses your photo library.

If you choose a photo, PDF, or file as a Jot background (a Jots Pro feature), you pick it with the system's own picker, which hands the app only the single item you selected — nothing else. That item becomes part of the Jot, stored like your ink: on your device and in your own iCloud.

On a Mac, Jots runs in Apple's app sandbox. Files you import, export or back up go through the system's own open and save panels, which give the app only the file you chose. The sandbox is also told to let Jots reach one system service: Apple's on-device handwriting recognizer on the Mac, which reads a Jot's ink as text, as described above.

If you write to us

The app sends us nothing. If you email us, though, we receive what any email carries: your address, your name if your mail shows it, what you wrote, and anything you attach — a screenshot, a Jot, a backup or a sync manifest, for instance. A Jot or a backup holds your notes, so send one only when you’re comfortable with us seeing it.

We use what you send only to answer you and to fix what you reported. We don’t add you to a mailing list, and we don’t sell or share your message; it stays with the email service that hosts wellthot.com mail. We keep it while it helps us support you and the app, and we delete it when you ask — write to the same address.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and post the revised version on this page. Material changes will be reflected here.
